Rise Wall Difference

Rise Wall is the world’s first (and only) lay-flat permanent formwork system.

Rise Wall concrete formwork can be compared with other methods of construction of load bearing walls or structural walls as follows;

Traditional concrete formwork/Insitu concrete walls

Traditional concrete formwork or insitu concrete formwork walls are is essentially done by assembling timber into and internal and external shutter to create the required concrete formwork shape. Typically this involves;

  • Storage of the insitu formwork timber in yard in between uses
  • Transport of concrete formwork timber and frames to site
  • Unloading and material handling of formwork system
  • Forming up – installing insitu formwork before steel reinforcement installed
  • Closing – completing concrete formwork after steel reinforcement installed
  • Stripping concrete formwork after concrete has been placed and cured
  • Stacking formwork panels and loading out
  • Transporting formwork system back to yard

Rise Wall permanent formwork system reduces the above to the following

  • Transport of Rise Wall stay in place (SIP) to site
  • Unloading & material handling of lay-flat & compact concrete formwork system
  • Installing Rise Wall modular formwork panels
  • Install steel reinforcement inside Rise Wall to achieve structural wall design
  • Pouring concrete into Rise Wall permanent formwork or insulate concrete form (ICF)

Rise Wall can typically be installed 60-80% faster than traditional/insitu formwork and for around 30-50% less cost

Core filled blockwork/besser blocks/cinder blockwork

Core filled blockwork has long been the ‘go-to’ alternative to reinforced concrete walls.

Also known as besser block walls or cinder block walls, this type of construction is labour intensive, involves a lot of material handling and create significant mess on site.

Besser block construction involves significant material handling getting pallets of blocks, sand, cement and mixing equipment to the work face.

Core filled blockwork is typically laid with a crew of 3 tradesmen and 1 labourer. This crew will typically aim to achieve 25-30m3 per day.

Cinder or Besser block walls need to be properly cleaned out as they are laid so that the block fill concrete mix can flow properly to achieve a structural wall without voiding This is process is often not done properly and creates significant mess on site.

Core filled block walls should also only be built to 1.5-2.0m high before being core filled which means for walls over 2.0m at least two concrete pump visits are required.

Besser block wall construction also typically involves more scaffolding and scaffold movement than permanent formwork

Rise Wall permanent formwork system on the other requires minimal material handling being lifting the compact/lay-flat modular formwork panels to work face.

A crew of 3 people can easily install 100m2of Rise Wall permanent formwork wall in a day making it 3-4 times faster than core filled or besser blockwork.

Rise Wall formwork panels do not need to be washed out and the concrete wall can be filled in one concrete pump visit.

Rise Wall permanent formwork also typically $20-50/m2 more cost effective than core filled blockwork.

Precast Concrete/Precast Concrete Panels

Precast panels are pre-fabricated offsite under good quality construction condition.

In order to achieve this, all design must completed early in the project to enable shop drawing. Shop drawings comes with a cost, the project design becomes inflexible and there is lead time for concrete wall panels to be manufactured.

The precast concrete panels are then transported to site on large trucks often with costly wide load permissions required.

The precast panels are then craned into position with large material handling equipment and cranes.

Precast panels are faster to install and can also be prefabricated to larger heights than permanent formwork.

Rise Wall modular concrete forms enables the project design to remain flexible and negates the needs for shop drawings, lead time, large & heavy transport & material handling.

Rise Wall is typically >$50/m2 more cost effective than precast concrete panels

Tilt Panels/Tilt Slabs/Tilt panel construction/Tilt-up panels

Tilt panels, also called tilt slabs or tilt-up panels are similar to precast panel except they are cast on site. Design must be completed early for shop drawings.

This methodology requires a large area of the project to be used as a prefabrication/casting bed.

The prefabricated panels are also subject to site conditions.

Heavy/wide load transport is avoided but large material handling & cranes are still required.

Once cured the tilt-up panels are fast to erect and larger height walls can be stood than with permanent formwork

Rise Wall modular concrete forms enables the project design to remain flexible and negates the needs for shop drawings, lead time, large & heavy transport & material handling.

Rise Wall is typically >$10-30/m2 more cost effective than precast concrete panels

Stay in place (SIP) formwork

Stay in place (SIP) formwork is the concept of concrete formwork that is installed, filled and not removed. This eliminates the need to strip & stack, unload from site, transport back to a yard ofr storage.

Rise Wall is one of the most cost effective stay in place (SIP) formwork systems

Insulated concrete formwork (ICF)

Insulated concrete formwork (ICF) is development of stay in place formwork (SIP) with additional thermal insulation properties.

Typically ICF forms, ICF walls, ICF panels etc involve expanded polystyrene EPS) foam as the actual formwork mould. Whilst this provides thermal benefits it is a soft substrate under applied finishes and prone to impact damage.

Rise Wall Super Finish is an insulated concrete formwork (ICF) with EPS foam installed internally to fibre cement sheet. This provides a harder surface to the formwork and a more accepting material for further finishes to be applied.
